Arkview Behavioral Health’s Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), with locations in Mechanicsburg and East York, Pennsylvania, provides structured, intensive treatment for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient care but do not require 24-hour inpatient hospitalization.

The program is designed to help participants stabilize symptoms, develop coping skills, and work toward improved daily functioning through a combination of evidence-based therapy, psychiatric care, and individualized treatment planning. With a focus on compassionate support and clinical excellence, Arkview helps individuals build a strong foundation for lasting mental health recovery.

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a critical point on the mental health care continuum. It is more intensive and structured than traditional outpatient therapy, yet it does not require an overnight stay. You can attend our programming during daytime hours and return home each evening.

At Arkview Behavioral Health, our Mental Health PHP runs five days per week, offering a consistent daily structure that many adults need when symptoms are severe enough to significantly interfere with daily functioning but do not rise to the level requiring 24-hour inpatient care.

Standard outpatient therapy might mean one hour per week with a therapist. Inpatient hospitalization means around-the-clock clinical care. PHP is the intensive middle ground; days structured around therapeutic support, evenings spent at home in your own environment.

This level of care is well-suited for adults who have recently been discharged from inpatient psychiatric care and need continued support, as well as for those whose symptoms have escalated beyond what weekly outpatient services can address. Throughout the program, you will receive daily psychiatric oversight, individual therapy, group-based programming, and medication management—all coordinated by a dedicated behavioral health team working closely together on your behalf.

Conditions We Treat

Our Mental Health PHP is designed to treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions in adults. Our clinical team brings specialized expertise in the following areas, including presentations with more than one condition present at the same time.

We treat major depressive disorder and other persistent depressive conditions that affect mood, energy, motivation, and the ability to engage in daily life. When depression has reached the point where weekly therapy is no longer sufficient, PHP provides the level of daily support needed to begin making meaningful progress.

Generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and related anxiety conditions can become profoundly disruptive when left undertreated. Our program offers structured, evidence-based treatment designed to reduce the severity of anxiety symptoms and build lasting coping skills.

Managing bipolar disorder requires careful, consistent clinical oversight — especially during periods of acute mood instability. Our PHP provides daily psychiatric monitoring, medication management, and therapeutic support to help adults achieve greater stability and a clearer path forward.

Our team takes a trauma-informed approach to care across all programming. For adults dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or the lasting effects of traumatic experiences, PHP provides a safe and structured environment to begin processing and healing.

Many adults arrive with more than one diagnosis, or with mental health challenges that occur alongside substance use. Our PHP is equipped to provide integrated treatment that addresses the full clinical picture, not just one piece of it.

If you are unsure whether your specific diagnosis is addressed in our program, we encourage you to reach out. Our admissions team will conduct a thorough clinical assessment to help determine the right level of care for your needs.

Who Is Our Mental Health PHP For?

Our Mental Health PHP is exclusively for adults. It is best suited for individuals who are experiencing a significant mental health crisis or decline but who are safe and stable enough to live at home during the course of treatment. You should also be willing and able to commit to attending programming five days per week during daytime hours.

This program may be the right fit if you:

  • Are an adult whose mental health symptoms have intensified and are no longer manageable through weekly outpatient therapy alone
  • Have recently been discharged from inpatient psychiatric care and need structured clinical support to maintain your progress
  • Are you experiencing a noticeable decline in your ability to function at work, in relationships, or with everyday self-care due to a psychiatric condition
  • Have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, a mood disorder, or co-occurring conditions and require a more intensive level of treatment
  • Need your medications actively monitored and adjusted as part of a coordinated, whole-person treatment plan
  • Are looking for a program that bridges the gap between hospitalization and traditional outpatient care

PHP is not the right fit for everyone. If your current symptoms require 24-hour supervision or immediate crisis intervention, a higher level of care may be more appropriate. Our team will be honest with you about where you are most likely to be safe and to thrive.

What to Expect During Treatment

Starting a new treatment program can feel like a big step. Here is a clear picture of what daily and weekly life in our Mental Health PHP looks like, so you can arrive on day one feeling prepared.

The program runs Monday through Friday during daytime hours. This regularity is intentional. Consistent daily structure plays an important role in stabilizing mood, building coping skills, and restoring a sense of routine; all of which are often among the first things that break down when mental health symptoms become severe.

One of the most significant differences between PHP and standard outpatient care is the level of psychiatric access. Throughout the program, you will have daily psychiatric oversight provided by our clinical team. This means your medications are actively monitored and can be adjusted as clinically needed, in real time, as your treatment unfolds, rather than being reviewed only at monthly prescription appointments. This responsiveness can make a meaningful difference in the pace and quality of your progress.

You will meet with your own individual therapist one to two times per week, based on your clinical needs. These sessions give you dedicated time to work on your personal treatment goals, process your experiences in the program, and address the specific challenges you are facing. Your individual therapist is a consistent, trusted presence throughout your time in PHP.

Group sessions form the core of the daily schedule and are facilitated by licensed clinicians. Programming draws from evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills training, trauma-informed practices, and psychoeducation. Beyond the clinical content, group settings offer something equally valuable: genuine connection with peers who understand what you are going through.

From your first day in the program, your treatment team is already thinking ahead. As you progress through PHP, your team will work with you to plan an appropriate step-down level of care, whether that is an Intensive Outpatient Program or continued outpatient therapy, so that your transition out of PHP is intentional, well-supported, and built to last.

Insurance & Admissions

Insurance Coverage

Arkview Behavioral Health works with many major insurance providers. Most commercial insurance plans, and many Medicaid plans, include some level of coverage for partial hospitalization programs. Because coverage details vary by plan, our admissions team can complete a complimentary benefits verification on your behalf before you begin. You will have a clear picture of your financial responsibility before making any commitments.

Our Admissions Process

When you call or reach out to us, a member of our admissions team will conduct a brief clinical screening to learn more about your history, your current symptoms, and your treatment goals. This helps us confirm that PHP is the right level of care for where you are right now. If it is, we will move efficiently to get you started. If a different level of care would serve you better, we will help connect you with appropriate resources.

You do not need a referral to contact us directly. Many people find their way to us through a primary care provider, a previous therapist, or following an inpatient stay — but however you reach us, we will make the process as clear and manageable as possible.

For questions about admissions, insurance verification, or to schedule an intake assessment at our Mechanicsburg or East York location, contact our team today.
