What Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Involves

Partial hospitalization sits between residential and intensive outpatient. Programming runs roughly six hours a day, five days a week, typically for 4 to 12 weeks. The clinical content is close to residential: group therapy, individual sessions, medication management and relapse-prevention work. What differs is where you sleep. That makes it a strong option if you have a stable home to return to and people there who support the work.

Is This For You

Is Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Right for You?

You have finished detox or residential and still need daily structure
You have somewhere stable and safe to sleep
Weekly outpatient therapy has not been enough
You need clinical support during the day but not overnight
You are managing a co-occurring mental health condition alongside substance use
You can commit to five full days a week

If most of these land, partial hospitalization is likely the right intensity. A quick assessment confirms it against your history. Call (717) 744-0756.

Inside the Program

A Day in Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Programming runs about six hours daily. Mornings open with a check-in group, then move through cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, relapse prevention and process groups. Individual therapy is scheduled weekly. Medication management runs alongside where it applies. You go home each evening and return the next morning.

Your Care Continuum

Where Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Fits in Your Care

Partial hospitalization commonly follows detox or residential, and steps down into intensive outpatient. Some people enter directly when weekly therapy has stopped being enough but residential is more than they need. Movement between levels happens on the same campus with the same team.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours a day is PHP?
About six hours a day, five days a week, typically for 4 to 12 weeks. Exact hours are confirmed at intake and depend on the track you are placed in.
Can I work while in PHP?
Not full-time. Partial hospitalization takes most of your weekday. If you need to keep working, intensive outpatient runs 3 days a week with morning and evening tracks and may be the better fit.
How is PHP different from residential?
The clinical content is similar. The difference is that you go home at night in partial hospitalization rather than living on-site. That makes stable housing and a supportive home environment a requirement rather than a preference.
Do I need to complete detox first?
Only if you are physically dependent on alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids. Your intake assessment determines whether detox comes first, and detox runs on the same campus.
Is transport available?
Ask our admissions team when you call. Getting to programming five days a week is a real barrier and worth solving before you start rather than after.
