What Residential Treatment Involves

Residential treatment means living on-site while you do the clinical work, usually 3 to 4 weeks. It suits people who need distance from the environment they were using in, or who have tried outpatient and could not hold it. The structure does something outpatient cannot: it removes daily access and daily triggers while new habits are still fragile. Recently renovated rooms, a gym and a sports centre are part of the campus.

Is This For You

Is Residential Treatment Right for You?

You have completed detox and going straight home feels risky
You have tried outpatient treatment and relapsed
The people or places around you make staying stopped unrealistic
You have unstable housing
You have a co-occurring mental health condition that needs daily attention
You need to be somewhere you cannot easily leave

If this is you, the question is usually not whether you need treatment but whether home is a safe place to do it. Talk it through with us. Call (717) 744-0756.

Inside the Program

A Day in Residential Treatment

Days are structured from morning to evening. Group therapy runs several times daily, covering cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, relapse prevention and process groups. Individual therapy runs one to two times a week. Holistic programming, recreation and time in the gym are built in rather than bolted on. Evenings include optional 12-step meetings. Nursing staff are on-site around the clock.

Your Care Continuum

Where Residential Treatment Fits in Your Care

Residential usually follows detox and precedes partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient. Some people enter directly without detox if there is no physical dependence to manage. Stepping down happens on the same campus with the same clinical team. Your aftercare plan is written before your discharge date rather than on it.

Can’t Make It In? Virtual Options Available

Residential is by definition on-site. When you step down, Virtual IOP carries the same program to wherever you live in Pennsylvania, so the transition home does not mean losing your clinical team.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is residential treatment?
Three to four weeks for most people, sometimes longer depending on progress and what your insurance authorizes. Length is reviewed with your clinical team rather than fixed at admission.
What can I bring?
Our admissions team gives you a specific list before you arrive, covering clothing, medication, and what is not permitted. Call us and we will walk through it so there are no surprises on arrival.
Can I have visitors or use my phone?
Both are covered by our program policies, which our admissions team explains before you commit. Contact with family is generally encouraged and often built into treatment through family sessions.
Do I need detox first?
Only if you are physically dependent. Alcohol, benzodiazepines and opioids typically require detox before residential. Stimulants like cocaine and methamphetamine usually do not. Your intake assessment determines it.
Is residential covered by insurance?
Commonly yes, as medically necessary care, though authorization periods differ by plan. We verify your benefits at no cost and handle the authorization on your behalf.
Where is your Mechanicsburg campus?
4950 Wilson Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, off Route 15 and close to I-81. We serve Camp Hill, Carlisle, Harrisburg and the wider Cumberland County area. Call (717) 744-0756 for directions.
