What Mental Health PHP Involves

Mental health partial hospitalization provides daily clinical treatment for conditions that need more than weekly therapy but not inpatient admission. It runs about six hours a day, five days a week. Arkview is one of only three providers in Pennsylvania running separate dedicated facilities for mental health and substance use. That means your group is built around what you are actually here for, not adapted from a program designed for something else.

Is This For You

Is Mental Health PHP Right for You?

Weekly therapy has stopped being enough
Your depression or anxiety is affecting work, school or your ability to function
You have recently been discharged from inpatient care and need step-down support
Your medication needs adjusting under closer observation
You are managing bipolar disorder and your symptoms are escalating
You are working through trauma and need daily support to do it safely

If several of these apply, weekly therapy has probably been outpaced. An assessment tells you whether PHP fits. Call (717) 744-0756.

Inside the Program

A Day in Mental Health PHP

Programming runs about six hours daily. Groups cover cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, emotion regulation and trauma-informed work. Individual therapy is scheduled weekly. Psychiatric medication management runs alongside, with closer monitoring than outpatient allows. You go home each evening.

Your Care Continuum

Where Mental Health PHP Fits in Your Care

Mental health partial hospitalization sits below inpatient care and above intensive outpatient. It commonly follows an inpatient discharge as step-down, or steps up from weekly therapy when symptoms escalate. Where substance use is also present, our dual diagnosis track treats both together rather than sequentially.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions do you treat in mental health PHP?
Depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma and PTSD, and co-occurring conditions. Your intake assessment confirms whether partial hospitalization is the right intensity for what you are dealing with.
Is this separate from the addiction program?
Yes. Arkview runs separate dedicated facilities for mental health and substance use, which is unusual in Pennsylvania. Groups are built around mental health rather than mixed with a substance use track.
How is this different from inpatient care?
You go home at night. Inpatient means 24-hour supervision on-site. Partial hospitalization gives you daily clinical intensity while you sleep at home, which requires a safe and stable place to return to.
Can I keep seeing my own therapist or psychiatrist?
Talk to our admissions team about coordination. Continuity with an existing provider is often valuable and we work with outside clinicians where it makes clinical sense.
What if I have both a mental health condition and substance use?
That is common and it has its own track. Our dual diagnosis program treats both at the same time with one clinical team, because treating one and leaving the other predicts relapse.
