What Mental Health IOP Involves

Mental health intensive outpatient provides structured group and individual treatment about three hours a day, three days a week. It suits people who need more than weekly therapy but can maintain work, school and daily responsibilities. Arkview runs separate mental health and substance use programming. The group you are in is built around mental health rather than adapted from an addiction curriculum.

Inside the Program

A Day in Mental Health IOP

Sessions run about three hours, three days a week, morning or evening. Groups cover cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy skills, emotion regulation and trauma-informed work. Individual therapy is scheduled alongside, and psychiatric medication management continues where it applies.

Your Care Continuum

Where Mental Health IOP Fits in Your Care

Mental health intensive outpatient commonly follows partial hospitalization or an inpatient discharge, and steps down into ongoing outpatient therapy. It can also step up from weekly therapy. Where substance use is also present, our dual diagnosis track handles both together.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions does mental health IOP treat?
Depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma and PTSD, and co-occurring conditions. Intake confirms whether this intensity fits what you are dealing with.
How is this different from mental health PHP?
Hours. Partial hospitalization is roughly six hours a day, five days a week. Intensive outpatient is about three hours a day, three days a week. Partial hospitalization suits acute symptoms, intensive outpatient suits sustained work around a routine.
Can I do this while working?
Yes, that is the design. Morning and evening tracks exist so the program fits around employment or school.
Do you prescribe and manage medication?
Yes. Psychiatric medication management runs alongside therapy, with closer monitoring than standard outpatient appointments allow.
Is virtual mental health IOP available?
Our Virtual IOP is available across Pennsylvania. Ask our admissions team which track fits your situation when you call.
